Dementia with Lewy bodies is more popular with Lewy Body Dementia. This is a common form of dementia and its characteristics are similar to the ones of Parkinson and Alzheimer. That is why, it can be quite a challenge to be able to diagnose Lewy Body Dementia correctly. Unfortunately, like Alzheimer, Lewy Body Dementia is also an illness without a known cure.

Even so, patients of Lewy Body Dementia should not despair as there is still hope. Make sure that patients with symptoms of these diseases are brought in for tests and diagnosed properly. When he or she is diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia, he or she needs to take some treatments. This way, even with the problem, he or she can still live independently with the good quality of life longer.

This disease is caused by the accumulation of abnormal microscopic protein deposits in the brains. These microscopic protein deposits are known as Lewy bodies as they were first found by Frederick Lewy. These unwanted deposits will disrupt the brain from functioning normally and will cause slow deteriorate.

The symptoms of Lewy Body Dementia will only get worse over time, just like Alzheimer and Parkinson. Moreover, their other resemblance are so striking that it is not easy to tell them apart. Without the proper treatment, the patient will be experiencing deterioration in intellectual and motor function in only a few years and he will not be able to be independent anymore afterwards.

The difference is in the short ter memory loss. The patients of Lewy Body Dementia will be less prone to have problems of short term memory loss just like the patients of the Alzheimer disease. However, they will be experiencing a series of problems which can be greater like the decision making, planning, visual perception, organization, navigating distances as well as judging. That is why many patients of Lewy Body Dementia often fall or even feel lost even though they are in a familiar area.

Lewy Body Dementia can be stressful for the patients because they will also be experiencing insomnia , REM behavior disorder, daytime sleepiness, etc. The REM behavior disorder will make them act out the dreams that they are having. Patients of this illness will be experiencing changes in concentration and awareness, spontaneous motor symptoms that are alike the ones in the Parkinson and having recurrent visual delusions or hallucinations. These extra signs can help doctors to make their diagnosis.
